Frequently Asked Questions

Product Information IconProduct Information

  • Who installs the system?
  • The system can be installed by homeowners or electricians using our manual as a guide. Please consult your local electrical codes. If you get stuck, please call us. We want to make sure your system is installed successfully.

  • Why doesn't the package come with the conduits/everything I need to install?
  • It would cost more to truck conduit to our distribution facilities, stock it, and then freight it to your home again. The same electricians that can install SlabSure can find the conduit locally and at better rates.

  • How much does installation typically cost?
  • Hourly rates for electricians vary a by city. It usually takes just a 3-4 hours to handle the installation for an electrician (or homeowner) with a helper. If there are a lot of corners or obstructions or if you’re working alone then it may take more time.

  • My electrician has never heard of the system, do you have an electrician you recommend that is familiar with your systems?
  • The system is designed to be easy to install for any electrician. The electricians are usually very price competitive. The state of Texas requires that all electrical work is completed by certified electricians. A listing of these is available at Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation [https://www.tdlr.texas.gov/LicenseSearch/], or by calling 800-803-9202. It is easy to filter down to your local zip code or community and everyone on the list meets the state requirements. Just search for “electrician” and “electrical contractor” as shown below.

We recommend using this free tool and asking for as estimate for four hours of their work. Be sure to mention that they should have a helper. Another alternative is to call your local Home Depot, Lowes, or Ace Hardware and ask them to connect you with a local electrician. Another option is connecting to Angi.com, Houzz.com, homeadvisor.com where the electricians may pay to get connected to homeowners but their services are rated by actual users. Finally, ye olde Google search for “electrician near me” will find you local electricians as well.

With this much competition, we hope you understand why it is not cost competitive for us to maintain electricians across the US.

  • Do I need a permit to install it?
  • Local codes will vary, but generally, there is no permit required as no new breaker is required.

  • When is the best time of the year to install it?
  • There is no best time of the year to install but we have seen that foundations that are built on expansive clays during years of drought tend to have more problems over time. As we gather more and more data, we expect to see more research in this area as the construction industry now has a new way to learn and improve on foundation designs. Please note that installation is easier if the soil is soft and wet versus hard and dry.

  • How do I pay for it?
  • Our online payment portal allows you to pay for the kit using a credit card. Monitoring is paid annually. If this is a new construction installation or as part of closing on a home you are buying we may be able to get the system wrapped into your mortgage.

Financing is available, with approved credit.

  • Are there payment plans?
  • We realize that upgrading your home to a smart foundation requires an investment in technology and we are happy to provide you with payment options.

  • Is there a monthly service fee?
  • There is a monthly monitoring fee. The longer the term you sign up for the lower the price. We also have a military and senior discount.

  • 10 years is a long time, what happens if I need to stop payments for a while.
  • If emergencies come up, we can defer annual both the monitoring and payments for up to 12 months. Just give us a call.

  • How long does it take until I know if my foundation is ok?
  • The first year of monitoring is a baseline year. During this year we are only monitoring. However, it is not unusual that a homeowner might have a more pressing concern. If that is your situation, please call our tech support team at 844-SlabSure and request an individual assessment of the data. After the first year is complete, anomaly detection is activated, and you can check the status of the foundation directly.

  • What happens if I the system is flooded? Will I lose my data?
  • SlabSure was built as a response to Hurricane Harvey in Texas when people wanted to know if the foundation on their flooded home was damaged before they decided to rebuild. All the components are selected to be waterproof in the event of a flood. Rest assured that your data will be backed up to restricted-access servers and stored out of harms way. As soon as power is restored, we can restart measuring. Please note that call volumes will be much higher after a flooding event, but your foundation status should be available within hours after power is restored and the water has receded.

  • Will I get a discount thru my insurance by having this system?
  • While we can get homeowners dramatic discounts on structural warranties on new home construction, most insurance does not cover foundation damage from expansive clays. This may be due to massive costs the insurance companies would be burdened with. (In a typical year in the United States, expansive soils cause a greater financial loss to property owners than earthquakes, floods, hurricanes, and tornadoes combined. This is in part because the damage can exceed the value of the home itself. – Geology.com)

However, with SlabSure you can maintain your foundation and intervene early.

  • What is the cancel/refund policy?
  • You can cancel at any time before your annual payment is made. It's that simple. If you forget to cancel until after the annual payment is made, just give us a call and we will charge for the first month and cancel the remaining 11 months. Cancelled foundations are no longer monitored. It is the client's sole responsibility to advise their insurance carrier that the foundation is no longer being monitored.

  • How do I cancel/return if I no longer want the system?
  • We want all our clients to be happy clients. That is true for former clients too. If you decide that you need to cancel, please reach out via chat or phone call and we will cancel your renewal and close the account. Once an account is cancelled, we stop monitoring the account. This means that software updates and maintenance notifications are stopped as well. There is no need to return the system. However, we will be happy to send you return instructions so that we can recycle the cartridge and enclosure for you.

  • What happens if I sell my home?
  • ONLY an existing homeowner can sell and transfer an account to a new homeowner. When transferred by the seller (you), the monitoring can be prepaid and included in the buyer’s closing costs as well.

The equipment is not normally transferrable to a new home because the length around each home is unique, and the installation and removal will be more complicated for an electrician. Still not sure, just give us a call and we can discuss your options.

  • How long does it take to receive my system?
  • Our standard systems (SlabSure150, SlabSure200, SlabSure 250) are typically in stock and can ship from our distribution facility in Austin in a few days. However, during peak demand we have seen 4 weeks to ship a system. Custom systems will be shipped factory direct and may require up to 6 weeks to ship.

  • Why doesn't the package come with the conduits/everything I need to install?
  • It would cost more to truck conduit to our distribution facilities, stock it, and then freight it to your home again. The same electricians that can install SlabSure can find the conduit locally and at better rates.
